LSU Press is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The NEH created these emergency grants for the short-term relief of nonprofit institutions and organizations in the humanities affected by COVID-19. “A Humanities Mission Endangered: Sustaining LSU Press” will provide support for day-to-day Press operations in the midst of the ongoing pandemic.
“I’m absolutely thrilled by this award and very grateful to the NEH,” said LSU Press director Alisa Plant. “We publish extensively in civil rights, social justice, and southern history, and our mission has never been more critical than it is today. The CARES grant will help us continue to contribute to the current national dialogue despite the uncertain economic fallout from COVID-19.”
LSU provost Stacia Haynie said, “NEH grants are very competitive, and winning one speaks volumes to the important work of LSU Press.” Out of over 2300 qualified applications, the Press was one of 317 successful applicants.
The grant will run through December 31, 2020.
Created in 1965 as an independent federal agency, the National Endowment for the Humanities supports research and learning in history, literature, philosophy, and other areas of the humanities by funding selected, peer-reviewed proposals from around the nation.
