Though Hurricane Ike has been getting most of the national attention these days, it was Hurricane Gustav that left his mark on LSU Press. Our building lost most of its roof shingles during the Labor Day storm and the ensuing water damage collapsed the ceilings in several second floor offices and in the first floor conference room. The building was without power for six days. In the Louisiana heat, mold grew on walls, in closets, and on furniture, making the building uninhabitable.
Fortunately, none of our staff was injured during the storm and no work was lost in the building. Repairs are expected to take two to four months. In the meantime, LSU Press is settling into its temporary offices on LSU’s South Campus, about five miles away from its permanent home.
